Parent Technology Checklist

The new school year is approaching. Though it will be a much different start, we all want our students to be excited, happy, and successful. As a parent, there are several things you can do to help ensure that your child is prepared for the first day. Below is a checklist of steps and information that will help you and your child get off to a great start this year.

Step 1: Know your child’s Office 365 email address and password.

Students will use this login information for multiple programs. Keep it in a safe location.

Student email address: ______________________@pwcs-edu.org

Student Password: _______________________________

The student’s email address and password are the same as last school year.

If you do not know your child’s email address, you can look it up in ParentVUE.

Not sure of your child’s password? You can reset it on our King Student Website Page.

Step 2: Make sure your child can log in to Canvas. Canvas works best with Google Chrome browser.

Go to the King Student website and click on the Canvas link. Then enter the student’s Office 365 email address and password. Your classes may not be set up for you yet, but you should be able to log in.  Or you can go directly to http://canvas.pwcs.edu/ to log in. Want to learn more about how your child will work in Canvas? Watch this video.

Step 3: Activate your child’s Zoom account.

You will not be able to join your teacher’s Zoom sessions unless you activate the student’s Zoom account. Go to the King Student website King Student Website Page and click on the Zoom link. Click on Sign in. Then enter the student’s Office 365 email address and password. Once you have logged in successfully, the account is activated. Students will be joining Zoom lessons with their teacher through Canvas on the first day of school. Want to know more about Zoom? Watch this video.

Step 4: Parents should create an observer account in Canvas.

You can view your child’s progress in Canvas using the Canvas Parent mobile app or on the web. This video will help you create your account and get started.

Step 5: Create a ParentView account if you have not already created one. If you have one, make sure you can log in.

First, get an activation key by contacting Juanita Campana at CAMPANJX@pwcs.edu.  After you have the activation key, go to this website and click on more options and then choose Activate account.

Will your child be using a personal iPad or Android device for schoolwork? Please see this website for a list of apps that need to be installed.
